Google Antitrust Case: 19 Complainants Named Include Microsoft

A collection of 19 complainants led to the antitrust case against Google, and Reuters has what purports to be a list of them.

The news agency has sources that have shared the details, and reports that they come from a range of industries, including publishing and flight comparison services, and feature one anonymous individual.

Reuters has confirmed that Yelp, Expedia, Foundem, ICOMP, Hot-Map, Euro-Cities, and 1plusV are among the complainants.

Other businesses, which are named but unconfirmed, include Streetmap, TripAdvisor, and Microsoft.

The European investigators have remained mute on the Reuters report. V3 has asked for any information on the published list, but the EC declined to comment. Antitrust complainants are not usually named.

V3 has also asked Google for its views on the case and is waiting for a response.

The European Commission (EC) filed its official Statement of Objections against Google this month, alleging that the firm had abused its dominance of the search market and unfairly boosted its own services.

It has been a while coming and Google had sought to put it off, but ultimately Margrethe Vestager, the EU commissioner in charge of competition policy, had enough and said that it was time for questions to be asked.

“In the case of Google I am concerned that the company has given an unfair advantage to its own comparison shopping service, in breach of EU antitrust rules,” she said.

“Google now has the opportunity to convince the Commission to the contrary. However, if the investigation confirms our concerns, Google would have to face the legal consequences and change the way it does business in Europe.”

Google has defended itself already, but it has some stiff critics nipping at the firm. A lot of companies have taken issue with Google and its services, but only 19 will be heard in Europe.
